HARARE- Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is next week expected to launch the MDC-T’s alternative economic policy blueprint to counter Zanu PF’s indigenisation programme.
MDC-T national organising secretary Nelson Chamisa said the policy document — dubbed Juice (Jobs, Upliftment, Investment, Capital and Environment) — would be launched in Harare on Monday. Tsvangirai, who is currently in the United States of America at the invitation of US President Barack Obama’s Democratic Party, is expected back in the country over the weekend.
“The programme will be launched next week by Tsvangirai in his capacity as party president. The party has a blueprint that unpacks the new Zimbabwe with reliable electricity, convenient network of communication, water, jobs and, most importantly, that the country will be open for jobs and investments in a new Zimbabwe,” Chamisa said.
He said the policy’s main thrust was job creation.
The MDC-T is on record dismissing the indigenisation policy as retrogressive and meant to benefit only Zanu PF bigwigs.
“It is going to be a combination of planting trees and harvesting as opposed to Zanu PF that is targeting not only to harvest, but to uproot trees planted by others,” Chamisa said.
He said the MDC-T had a sound policy for the elderly, youths and the general public.
“We have a strategy targeting companies that had been run down. Whatever is touched by indigenisation will turn into rust while whatever that is touched by Juice will turn into gold,” Chamisa said. - NewsDay
