Nengomasha back for Zimbabwe

Bidvest Wits midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha has been named in Zimbabwe’s squad for the decisive African Nations Cup qualifier in Angola on October 14 despite not pitching for the first leg.

Nengomasha did not travel to the first leg win in Harare because his club claimed he had not been called up the required 14 days before the match by the Zimbabwe Football Association.

Also missing for similar reasons was the former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona, who is also recalled for the return encounter which will decide which of the two southern African countries qualify for the 2013 Nations Cup finals in South Africa.

ZIFA have said nothing, nor indeed taken any action, about the administrative lapse.

Nengomasha is joined in the squad by six other players from Premier Soccer League clubs.

Defender Carlington Nyadombo of AmaZulu is expected to line-up alongside Esrom Nyandoro, who also played in the back four and gave a stellar performance in Zimbabwe’s 3-1 first leg triumph in Harare in early September.

Also named are Oscar Machapa of Moroka Swallows, Abbas Amidu of Black Leopards, Orlando Pirates’ new signing Takesure Chinyama and Khama Billiat, the Ajax Cape Town playmaker who was another of the first leg stars.

AmaZulu goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini, who is Zimbabwe’s first choice, misses the match after recent surgery that threatens his chances of playing in the Nations Cup finals should Zimbabwe hold onto their 3-1 lead and qualify.
